Star's Got Talent! - Fringe Review

These kids actually DO have talent!!
Designed to mimic talent shows similar to AGT or Idol, the show involved lots of different small group performances in various styles of dance and musical theatre. Three judges are set at a table and left on stage to engage with the “judging“ phase of the show. The talent of the kids performing the dances is undeniable!
Unfortunately, the show fell significantly below par simply due to its scripting and significant “overacting” by some performers, including the adult host and young judges. Although the comic content was designed for engagement, it generated no laughs, even from the kids in the audience. I found it difficult to ignore the bad acting and scripting to actually focus on the talent.
I can imagine most of the audience are family members of the children performing. I felt like I was watching an end of year recital for parents for a dance school rather than a public show. If you can look past the bad comedy and scripting, just focus on the performances and you’ll find those parts enjoyable. If these kids choose a career in theatre as actors, they’ll have some work to do before they find success. The dance elements were brilliant however! The one about the man in the mirror was my favourite!
